Preview of the 2nd preseason game
As much as Jim Zorn wants to see the offense play better in tonight preseason match versus the Steelers, I really don't expect to see anything different from last week outcome, especially in the 1st Half. The Super bowl champs had the number one defense in the NFL last season, and destroyed the Redskins the last time the steel curtain was in FedEx. Also, Zorn's comments on his team being soft last week won't help that either
However, I'm interested to see how the starters will perform early on. As expected, all first team starters will be in action which will include Albert Haynesworth, Randy Thomas, and Clinton Portis. Hopefully, Jason Campbell can at least lead the Redskins to a touchdown drive tonight, but that will be a very difficult task versus the Steelers defense. Clinton Portis however will likely play only in the 1st quarter.
I'm also interested to see how the Defensive Line performs against a very weak Steeler O-Line with Haynesworth in the lineup. Ben Roethlisberger is expected to play tonight despite suffering a Achilles Tendon during practice on Thursday, so it might be easier for the D-Line to add pressure to Big Ben. Hopefully, Brian Orakpo continues his stellar performance from last week, and tackling from the safeties and linebacker positions will be much improved.
Finally, we will see how much depth the Redskins have on both sides during the second half in case one of our starters gets injured. The backups generally did not play well at all last week, and pretty much had bad field position to start with. Hopefully, Todd Collins, and Colt Brennan play better, and the Offensive Line backups gives them better protection this time, because it was awful last week.
FYI: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms is in the forecast for tonight's game in FedEx Field, that could mean a low scoring affair as expected.
Prediction: Steelers: 13, Redskins: 10
UPDATE: Big Ben not in the Lineup tonight
